Nothing But Leaves

Only 13 more sleeps...........with nothing but leaves & more leaves on the driveway, the street, the lawn, the roof, the vehicle.........seems like they're everywhere!
Yesterday we called in help. George wasn't feeling good & as well had hurt his knee a while back so we called in Aaron to help us with the lawn & leaves. So glad to have him come down the mountain (with very helping hands). We enjoyed the visit too (& short game of Rummikub)!

Mocha to the Vet

About a week ago we discovered that Mocha had ear mites. We treated her with some essential oils. It seemed to do the trick but there was still a lot of dark bits coming out of her ears so we thought it best to get it checked out. We took her to the Vet yesterday. Fifteen minutes & $135.00 later we were home making dinner. After many questions of the front desk attendant (the girl had to keep running back to ask the Vet for answers to my questions.....why the Vet didn't come talk to us I don't know.....guess I didn't demand it) we finally found out there was no ear mites (so we had cured that) but there was a bit of inflamation (for which she gave us some ointment). My oh my oh my. I think the whole thing could have been avoided had we known the mites were gone........but we didn't & so it wasn't.......darn!
We did learn though, Mocha has gained about three & a half pounds since her spaying which is not good. She has acquired quite a taste for almonds & sometimes would get as many as 20 a day (we taught her to 'sneeze' for an almond). Now we have to try to cut down her eating (actually we have to discipline ourselves to decrease the treats & people food. That will be a big help. I'm not sure what happened; "No-People-Food" used to be my rule! Hmmmmm.........:)

Never Say Never

I know, I know..........can't I think of something original you say?
Well, I was watching TV (imagine that) & saw a commercial (I believe it was about finding a cure for MS). The lead-ups (not necessarily in this order) went something like this:
Man will never fly......
Women will never get the vote......
Mt Everest will never be conquered......
Man will never walk on the moon......
Looking back over the years I can think of a lot of nevers in my life as well & it has just now (took a lot of years) occurred to me that I had better try my best to rid my thoughts of nevers. How about you?

Choosing Cruising Snoozing

We're goin' on a 'CRUISE'.........first ever for both George & me.
Choosing a Cruise can be a daunting task (for me).......I say for me, because I need plenty of time to plan something as big as a Cruise (after all it's not just a week-end at the lake). Even though I like to have lots of time to plan & stew I make a lot of decisions by 'gut'. George is the researcher in our house (checking, measuring, comparing everything). He did all the investigation & work (I just got frustrated, asked questions & then agreed). Our choice, a 7 night Caribbean, should give us a good taste of what Cruising is all about, visiting various ports as well as lots of time for relaxing & maybe even some Snoozing. I'm very excited, though I feel a bit apprehensive because the time before we go is short. I'm a planner/organizer & need lots of time before an event so that I can fret & worry about it you see. It will be wonderful I am sure!
The countdown.....14 more sleeps until we fly from Seattle for Miami on Saturday Nov. 07 at 8:15.
In those 14 days we are also going on a short trip to Winnipeg to visit Danielle, Tyler & Levi (George's daughter & family). There's nothing like getting it all done at once!

More Than Meets the Eye

Words aren't easy to find as I share a story about a football coach who shouldn't (in my opinion) be coaching impressionable young men. I learned yesterday that SFU Clan Football Team has had to forfeit two wins because the coach allowed an ineligible player a spot in these games. Story can be found on http://www.canadawest.org/. This is not an inexperienced coach & I am certain that he knows the rules only too well................he was just trying to 'get-away-with' something he knew very well was not allowed by the league. The incident was not a first for this coach but this action has let down the entire team..........I hope all the players recognize him for what he is & don't buy into his excuse that the 'league is angry & picking on us because we are moving into the American NCAA league'. It angers me that the young men from this football team will be going out into the world with the teachings and example of this coach 'in hand'. More words really escape me!!

World of Magical Red Stars

First ever post for Turbo Granny October 22, 2009.
A wonderland of falling red stars, ever-so-slowly floating down, surrounded us yesterday when I walked with Mocha in the afternoon. It had rained in the morning; the ground was wet; the leaves (mostly bright red maple) made a beautiful colored blanket for us to walk on. A small wind came up as we walked which lightly shook the trees, sending tiny wet droplets down on our heads & red leaves falling all around us. I got lost in the scene for a few special moments. It was almost like a dream. The red leaves resembled red stars falling down around us. It may be a scene I won't experience again in my lifetime.........it seemed that magical. I wish I could have shared it with you; instead I just feel so inadequate to even describe it!
